有施主婦人入院行眾僧隨年錢。僧曰。聖僧前著一分。婦人曰。聖僧年多少。僧無對（法眼代云。心期滿處即知）。

A female donor came to the cloister to distribute age-offering coins to the assembly of monks. A monk said, "Place one portion before the sacred monk." The woman asked, "How old is the sacred monk?" The monk had no reply. (Fayan gave the substitution: "Where the mind's aspiration is fulfilled, one knows.")
