和州褒禪溥禪師。僧問。幸遇今朝登祖位。師將何法示迷情。師曰。獨耀無私對揚有準。云曇華纔綻遍界馨香。師曰。爾分上作麼生。云巨靈擡手無多子。分破華山千萬重。師曰。且緩緩。問如何是祖師西來意。師曰。牡丹須是三春拆。云學人未曉。師曰。黃菊還他九日開。云恁麼即便是和尚為人處也。師曰錯。乃曰。洪機纔割大施門開。輝慧日於鋒前。啟驪珠於句後。全開寶藏特決群疑。徑截千途心隨萬化。現自在力闡大威光。使一燈分照於十方。片月流光於萬水。為凡聖之根本。作迷悟之源由。演唱一音頓除疑網。包含萬有密付群機。心眼既開圓明自顯。智窮幽鑑應用千差。舒卷現前無非妙用。諸仁者。向這裏薦得。吼師子之音奮象王之勢。祛差別之異見。了縛脫之殊途。為苦海之津梁。掌法王之寶印。權衡在手明鏡當臺。可以摧邪輔正。可以去偽存真。現一道而清虛。闢群邪而體妙。圓光匪外。顯出一靈。豁開萬化之源。直示真空之理。諸仁者。還會麼。良久曰。皎然天地無私照。一道光明處處通。珍重。

Chan Master Baochan Pu of Hezhou. A monk asked, "Fortunate to encounter you ascending the ancestral seat today, with what Dharma will the Master instruct deluded sentiments?" The Master said, "Shining alone without partiality, responding and praising with standard." The monk said, "The udumbara flower has just blossomed, fragrance permeating the world." The Master said, "How is it on your part?" The monk said, "The giant spirit raises his hand without much effort, splitting Mount Hua into thousands of layers." The Master said, "Take it slowly." A monk asked, "What is the meaning of the Patriarch's coming from the West?" The Master said, "The peony must bloom in the third month of spring." The monk said, "The student does not understand." The Master said, "The yellow chrysanthemum waits for the ninth day to open." The monk said, "If so, then that is the Master's way of aiding people." The Master said, "Wrong." He then said, "When the grand capacity just operates, the gate of great giving opens, shining the sun of wisdom before the blade, revealing the black dragon's pearl behind the words. Fully opening the precious treasury, decisively settling all doubts; cutting straight through a thousand roads, the mind accords with myriad transformations. Manifesting sovereign power, expounding great majestic radiance, causing a single lamp to shine across the ten directions, a sliver of the moon to shed light upon ten thousand waters. Being the root of the ordinary and the sacred, acting as the source of delusion and awakening. Expounding with a single sound, doubts and entanglements are suddenly removed; encompassing myriad existences, secretly entrusting all capacities. Once the mind's eye is opened, complete clarity manifests of itself. Wisdom exhausts profound reflection, its functional applications in a thousand differences. Expanding and rolling up manifested before us, there is nothing that is not wondrous function. Noble ones, if you recognize it right here, you will roar with the lion's sound, exert the elephant king's vigor, dispel divergent views of distinction, and understand the disparate roads of bondage and liberation. You will be a bridge and ford across the sea of suffering, holding the precious seal of the Dharma King. With scales in hand and a bright mirror facing the stand, you can crush the heterodox and support the correct, eliminate the false and preserve the true. Manifesting a single road, pure and empty; dispelling all heterodoxies, the essence is wondrous. The perfect radiance is not external; it reveals a single spirit, flinging open the source of myriad transformations, directly pointing to the principle of true emptiness. Noble ones, do you understand yet?" After a long silence he said, "Clearly heaven and earth shine without partiality; a single path of bright light penetrates everywhere. Take care!"
