Chan Master Shimian of Chenghui in Luzhou. A monk asked, "What is the environment of Chenghui?" The Master said, "In front it overlooks the City of the Golden Dipper; in back it rests against the Cove of the Hidden Boat." The monk asked, "What is the person within the environment?" The Master said, "Where profit and fame are exhausted, the rivers and mountains are narrow; when sound and form are forgotten, heaven and earth are vast." He then said, "The ten thousand phenomena are just so; why should one obscure oneself? Assembly, do you still see? The wind is high and piercing cold, truly severe and congealing; auspicious aura and lucky light fill the temple courtyard. The ancestral order has already been executed; look with your eyes held high! The cold light gleams brilliantly, shooting into the Literary Star. You have been standing long."
