韶州南華寶緣慈濟禪師。僧問。如何是祖師西來意。師曰。青山綠水。曰未來時還有意也無。師曰。高者高低者低。

Chan Master Baoyuan Ciji of Nanhua in Shaozhou. A monk asked, "What is the meaning of the Patriarch's coming from the West?" The Master said, "Green mountains and green waters." [The monk] said, "Before he came, was there still meaning?" The Master said, "The high is high; the low is low."
