21.17

台州寶相元禪師。僧問。一切諸佛及諸佛阿耨多羅三藐三菩提皆從此經出。如何是此經。師曰。長時誦不停非義亦非聲。曰如何受持。師曰。若欲受持者應須用眼聽。

Chan Master Yuan of Baoxiang in Taizhou. A monk asked: "'All buddhas and all buddhas' anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi come forth from this sūtra.' What is this sūtra?" The Master said: "Chanted constantly without stopping, it is neither meaning nor sound." The monk asked: "How to uphold it?" The Master said: "If you wish to uphold it, you must listen with your eyes."
