30.30

隆興府黃龍道觀禪師。上堂曰。古人道眼色耳聲萬法成辦。爾諸人為甚麼從朝至暮諸法不相到。遂喝一喝曰。牽牛入爾鼻孔。禍不入慎家之門。

Chan Master Daoguan of Huanglong in Longxing Prefecture ascended the hall and said, "An ancient said, 'Eye to form, ear to sound, the ten thousand dharmas are fully accomplished.' Why is it that, for all of you, from morning till evening the various dharmas do not meet each other?" Thereupon he gave a shout and said, "Leading an ox into your nostrils. Calamity does not enter the gate of a prudent family."
