Chan Master Kefeng of Fu'an at Bao'an in Yixing, Changzhou, was a son of the Lin family of Fuzhou. Ascending the hall: 'Heaven is vast, earth is broad, the wind is fresh, and the moon is white. This is the season when the world is peaceful and calm. When patch-robed monks are casually questioned, five pairs out of ten know it exists. But when at midnight the Huayan Pond swallows up the Yangzi River, and Kaiming Bridge knocks down Pingshan Pagoda—do you all still know it? If you do know, try saying a phrase directed toward the heaven of neither-perception-nor-non-perception. If you do not yet know—' He threw down his whisk and said, 'It must be this mountain monk's whisk before you can succeed!'
