34.14

福州天王志清禪師。上堂竪起拂子云。只這箇天不能蓋地不能載。遍界遍空成團成塊。到這裏三世諸佛向甚麼處摸索。六代祖師向甚麼處提持。天下衲僧向甚麼處名邈。除非自得自證便乃敲唱雙行。雖然如是。未是衲僧行履處。作麼生是衲僧行履處。是非海裏橫身入。豺虎叢中縱步行。

Chan Master Zhiqing of Tianwang in Fuzhou ascended the hall, held up his whisk, and said: "Just this—heaven cannot cover it, earth cannot contain it. Pervading the world, pervading space, formed as a lump, formed as a mass. Arriving here, where do the Buddhas of the three periods grope for it? Where do the six generations of patriarchs uphold it? How do patch-robed monks of the world name or describe it? Unless one realizes and verifies it oneself, striking and singing proceed together. Even though it is like this, it is still not the place where a patch-robed monk treads. What is the place where a patch-robed monk treads? Throwing oneself sideways into the ocean of right and wrong; walking freely amidst the thicket of jackals and tigers."
