處州南明日慎禪師。僧問。祖意教意是同是別。師曰。水天影交碧。曰畢竟是同是別。師曰。松竹聲相寒。

Chan Master Rishen of Nanming in Chuzhou. A monk asked, 'Are the Patriarch's meaning and the scriptural teachings identical or different?' The master said, 'The shadows of water and sky mutually interlace in green.' He asked, 'Ultimately, are they identical or different?' The master said, 'The sounds of pine and bamboo chill each other.'
