8.22

臨安府法雨慧源禪師。僧問。如何是最初一句。師曰。梁王不識。曰如何是末後一句。師曰達磨渡江。

Chan Master Huìyuán of Fǎyǔ in Lín'ān Prefecture. A monk asked, "What is the primary phrase?"
The Master said, "The King of Liáng did not know."
[The monk] asked, "What is the final phrase?"
The Master said, "Bodhidharma crossed the river."
