9.28

太平州瑞竹仲和禪師。僧問。得座披衣人盡委。向上宗乘事若何。師曰。但知氷是水。曰更有事也無。師曰。休問水成氷。曰弄潮須是弄潮人。師曰。這僧從淛中來。

Chan Master Zhonghe of Ruizhu in Taipingzhou. A monk asked, "Attaining the seat and donning the robe, everyone understands. What about the matter of the supreme lineage?" The master said, "Just know that ice is water." [The monk] said, "Is there anything further?" The master said, "Stop asking about water becoming ice." [The monk] said, "To ride the tide, one must be a tide-rider." The master said, "This monk comes from Zhezong."
