卿已出家。性有昏明。學無多少。要在修精。上士坐禪。中士誦經。下士堪能塔寺經營。豈可終日一無所成。立身無聞可謂徒生。今故誨汝。宜自端情。

'You have already renounced household life. One's nature may be dull or bright; learning is not a matter of quantity, but lies essentially in cultivation and diligence. Superior practitioners sit in meditation; middling practitioners chant sūtras; lesser practitioners manage the affairs of stupas and monasteries. How can you accomplish nothing all day long? To establish oneself without any renown may be called living in vain. Now I instruct you: you should rectify your minds.'
