2.88

九謂。宋初涼州沙門智嚴遊西域。至罽賓受禪法還長安南至楊州宋都。廣譯諸經。然以受戒有疑。重往天竺。羅漢不決。為上天諮彌勒。告之得戒。於是返至罽賓而卒。遣弟子智羽等報徵西返。

The ninth: Early in the Song, the śramaṇa Zhiyan of Liangzhou traveled to the Western Regions, reached Jibin to receive the meditation methods, and returned to Chang'an, traveling south to the Song capital in Yangzhou to translate scriptures widely. However, having doubts about his ordination, he went again to Tianzhu. An arhat, unable to resolve it, ascended to heaven on his behalf to consult Maitreya, who told him that he had obtained the precepts. Thereupon, returning as far as Jibin, he died; he sent his disciple Zhiyu and others to report and return east.
