Regarding the Hall of Layered Clouds of the Chen dynasty flying into the sea: this hall was erected by Emperor Wu of the Liang; inside, images were enshrined, all made of precious treasures. After the Liang declined and Chen Baxian ascended the throne, Emperor Wu [of Chen] passed away. Lacking funerary equipment, they wished to take the pearl curtains from the hall. Having gathered abundant manpower, they arrived from all four sides simultaneously. Suddenly they saw clouds and vapor encircling it; heavy rain poured down, and thunder and lightning struck violently. The craftsmen all fled in haste. Furthermore, fire was seen lining the air, with continuous sheets of flame. The great Hall of Layered Clouds and the Buddha images within it all soared upward, framed against smoke and fire, and suddenly flew eastward. The whole realm looked up at it until it vanished beyond sight. The very day the rain cleared, only the foundation stones remained. Over a month later, someone arrived from the eastern region, saying that on that day they had seen a hall riding the air and entering the sea. Nowadays, those looking out over the sea still catch sight of it from time to time. When the stupa of Yongning Temple in Luoyang of the Northern Wei was struck by heavenly thunder, it flew to the Eastern Sea; that event was roughly similar.
