The memorial from Bianzhou stated: The relics arrived in the prefecture on the second day of the third month, temporarily placed in the prefectural guesthouse. On the night of the sixth day, the venerable monk Huiche and others suddenly smelled a fragrance out of the ordinary. On the eighth day, when the monks welcomed the relics to convey them toward the pagoda site, the venerable monk Can and four others again smelled the fragrance. More than forty paces from the gate of Huifu Temple, blue-green light was emitted, covering and illuminating the open canopy, extinguishing only after a great while. That temple had relics enshrined in the monks' quarters. On that day, Zhang Xiangren, a man of Qizhou, saw the relics inside the temple's monks' quarters emit blue-green light again, matching exactly the color and appearance of the newly arrived relics. On the tenth day, it happened again: red light was seen descending upon the temple's Buddha hall, five feet high. At the fourth watch [1:00–3:00 a.m.] that night, mixed blue-green and red light was seen again in the temple. Furthermore, there was an old mother who had suffered from a lumbar disease for more than twenty years, walking bent over to the ground with a staff; hearing that the relics had arrived at the temple, she made the effort to come and pay homage. Amid the great assembly, she saw the light of the relics, and her lumbar disease was immediately cured, so that she cast aside her staff and walked.
