問律既是具教。優波離既不開肉。律何得無文。法師此解殊為進退。只可為寺中沙彌式叉摩尼說。不得以此答弟子。答寶度愚解正自極此。

[The Emperor] asked: "Since the Vinaya is a complete teaching, and since Upāli did not permit meat, how could the Vinaya lack such a text? The Dharma master's explanation is thoroughly self-contradictory. It can only be told to the novices and probationers in the monastery; you cannot use it to answer this disciple." [Baodu] replied: "Baodu's foolish understanding reaches its limit precisely here."
