26.91

問律既云接續初教至於涅槃。既至涅槃則應言斷肉。答若制教邊。此是接續初教通於五時。不言一切皆同。僧辯解正齊此。

[The Emperor] asked: "Since it is said that the Vinaya continues the initial teaching down to the nirvāṇa, once it reaches the nirvāṇa, it ought to speak of prohibiting meat." [Sengbian] replied: "Regarding the prescriptive teachings, this is a continuation of the initial teaching and applies throughout the five periods; it does not say that everything is identical. Sengbian's understanding extends precisely to this point."
