第八慚愧良友。知識化導見佛因緣。令具梵行大經昌示。而我聞諫反以為讐。背逆三歸禮向神俗。迷著善導故違正誨。深可為愧。

Eighth, feeling shame before good friends: Spiritual mentors teach and guide, providing the causal conditions for seeing the Buddha, bringing one to complete the pure conduct, and gloriously demonstrating the great scriptures. Yet when I hear their admonishments, I instead treat them as enemies, turning my back upon the three refuges to pay homage toward spirits and the secular, being deluded and clinging despite good guidance, willfully transgressing righteous instruction. This is deeply cause for shame.
