A native of Runan. During the reign of Emperor Shizu of the Song, he served as Inner Scribe of Luling. He submitted a memorial stating: 'Since the teaching of the Śākya clan spread, its origins have had a clear source. Its broad propagation and pervasive nourishment have indeed been vast. Yet some practitioners falsely mix it with medical arts or rely on divination: outside, the law does not tolerate it; inside, the doctrine does not condone it. Yet they spread throughout heaven and earth, and no one scrutinises or investigates them. It is now appropriate to enforce the Buddhist monastic rules strictly and assist the majesty of the state's ordinances. Those whose defects and wickedness are prominent should all be dismissed and expelled. The rest should each be regulated according to their skills and practices, ensuring that each person is proficient in at least one: meditation, doctrine, or scripture recitation; their food should not exceed vegetables, and their clothing should not exceed hempen cloth. If more people are to be ordained, they should first be made to study the doctrine and practice the fundamentals. If their spiritual minds are genuinely able to regard the human and heavenly realms as rotting weeds and advance their refined energies, then even if they are sons of noble houses, they should not be restricted.' His intention was the same as the previous one.
