The śramaṇa Jiantuole traveled in Luoyang for several years during the early Jin. Although people revered his demeanor and conduct, they could not measure his penetrating illumination. Later he said to people, 'On Mount Panchi there are an ancient temple and stūpa; for those who can reconstruct them, the merit will be immeasurable.' The multitude agreed, and excavating according to his words, they all found column foundation stones and stone mortars. In the end, it was restored, and Le was made abbot of the temple. It was a hundred li away from Luoyang. When the mealtime arrived, he would beg a bowl of oil and, holding it up, return to the temple. Coming and going with great speed, his appearance was as if flying. There were those capable of walking fast who pursued him, but in an instant he was lost in the distance. Le smiled and said, 'You may grasp the corner of my robe.' Once they held it, they reached the temple before the shadow moved.
