公輸能授人之規矩。不能使人巧而為之（授與也。公輸子名。班魯之巧人也。規所以為圓之器也。矩所以為方之器也。謂能授與人方圓之法。而不能使人之巧妙而為之）。

Gongshu can transmit the compass and square to others, but cannot make them skillful in using them; (Transmitting means giving. Gongshu's name was Ban, a skillful man of Lu. The compass is an instrument for making circles; the square is an instrument for making squares. It means he can give others the methods of square and round, but cannot make others skillful in doing so.)
