爾時太子共國師子優陀夷等往復來去言論之時。日遂至沒。太子既見日光沒已。便入宮中。共諸婇女。行於五欲快樂歡喜。相共聚集圍繞而住。其太子妃耶輸陀羅。即於是夜便覺有娠。太子後於異時。於此五欲極生厭離而求出家而說偈言。

At that time, while the prince was engaged in reciprocal discussion with Udāyin, the royal preceptor's son, and others, the sun finally set. Having seen the sunlight fade away, the prince entered the palace, and together with all the palace maidens engaged in the five desires with joy and happiness, gathering together and remaining surrounded by them. That very night, his consort Yaśodharā realized that she was pregnant. Later, at another time, the prince gave rise to extreme revulsion toward these five desires and sought to leave home, speaking a verse:
