隋高祖文皇帝（開皇三年周朝廢寺。咸乃興立之。名山之下各為立寺。一百餘州立舍利塔。度僧尼二十三萬人。立寺三千七百九十二所。寫經四十六藏。一十三萬二千八十六卷。修故經三千八百五十三部。造像十萬六千五百八十區自餘別造不可具知之矣）

Emperor Wen, Gaozu of the Sui (in the third year of the Kaihuang era, he rebuilt all the temples abolished by the Zhou dynasty; at the foot of famous mountains he established temples for each; in over 100 prefectures he erected relic pagodas; ordained 230,000 monks and nuns; established 3,792 temples; copied 46 canons of scriptures comprising 132,086 scrolls; repaired 3,853 works of ancient scriptures; and made 106,580 images, with other individual fabrications beyond complete knowing).
