19.61

東晉司空何充弱而信法。於齋立坐數年。以待神聖設會於家。道俗甚盛。坐中一僧容服垢污神色低陋。自眾升坐拱默而已。一堂怪之。謂在謬僻。充亦不平形於顏色。及行中食僧飯於坐。事畢提鉢而出堂。顧充曰。何侯勞精進耶。即擲鉢空中凌虛而逝。充及道俗目送天際。追共惋恨稽悔累旬（右三驗出梁高僧傳）。

During the Eastern Jin, Minister of Works He Chong had faith in the Dharma from his youth. At his vegetarian retreats, he set up a seat for several years to await holy beings, hosting assemblies at his home, with a great gathering of clergy and laypeople. Among the assembly, there was a monk whose appearance and clothing were filthy and whose countenance was lowly; he ascended the seat by himself from the congregation and merely sat with folded hands in silence. The whole hall was astonished at him, thinking he was in error and disorderly. He Chong was also displeased, which showed on his face. When the midday meal was served, the monk ate his food at the seat. When finished, he took his alms bowl and stepped out of the hall. Looking back at Chong, he said, ‘Minister He, is it tiresome to be diligent?’ Thereupon, he tossed his bowl into the air and vanished soaring through the void. Chong, along with the clergy and laypeople, watched him go to the edge of the sky, afterwards sharing regret and remorse, bowing in repentance for several ten-day periods.
