29.51

又至摩訶剌他國。其王自在。未賓戒日。寺有百餘。僧徒五千。東境山寺羅漢所造。有大精舍高百餘尺。中安石像。長八丈餘。上施石蓋。凡有七重。虛懸空中。相去各三尺。禮謁見者無不歎異。傳云。羅漢願力所持。或云藥呪術力所持。

Further, one arrives at the country of Mahārāṣṭra. Its king is independent and has not submitted to Śīlāditya. There are over a hundred monasteries and five thousand monks. The mountain monastery in the eastern border was built by an arhat. There is a great vihāra over a hundred feet high, inside of which is enshrined a stone statue over eighty feet long. Above it is set a stone canopy with seven tiers in all, suspended empty in mid-air, each tier three feet apart from the next. None who bow and behold it fail to sigh in wonder. Tradition says it is maintained by the power of the arhat's vow; others say it is maintained by the power of medicinal spells.
