I see form like foam on water, / And all feelings are like bubbles; / I observe perception to be like a mirage— / Thus do I recognise her. / I see mental formations like a plantain tree, / And consciousness like an illusion; / 'Woman' is a mere nominal designation— / Thus do I recognise her. / The body is insensate like wood, / And also like grass, tiles, and rubble; / The mind cannot be seen— / Thus do I recognise her. / Ordinary people are as if intoxicated, / Perversely generating evil perceptions; / The wise are not defiled by them— / Thus do I recognise her. / Like that corpse in the grove, / Putrid, repulsive, and impure, / The nature of the physical body is like this— / Thus do I recognise her. / What is past originally did not perish; / What is future is also unproduced; / What is present does not abide for a moment— / Thus do I recognise her. / Mañjuśrī should listen carefully: / Her kindness can hardly be repaid. / Formerly I was full of lust and desire, / But seeing impurity I was liberated. / Her body did not truly die; / To transform me she manifested death. / Showing it out of pity for the multitude, / Who that sees it would not bring forth the mind [of bodhi]? / In this way, greed, anger, and folly, / As well as all afflictions— / To realize the nature of phenomena as such / Is excellent, profound, and subtle indeed.
