63.75

又華嚴經云。雪山頂有藥王樹。名非從根生非不從根生。縱廣六百八十萬由旬。下極金剛際。此樹生根時。閻浮提樹一切根生。若生莖時及枝葉華菓時。閻浮提樹一切悉生枝葉華菓。其樹根能生莖。莖能生根。是故名曰不從根生非不從根生。於一切處悉能生長。唯除地獄深坑及水輪中。不得生長耳。

Furthermore, the *Avataṃsaka Sūtra* states: "On the summit of the Snow Mountains there is a king of medicinal trees named 'Neither Born from Roots nor Not Born from Roots'. It is six million eight hundred thousand yojanas in extent, reaching down to the diamond boundary. When this tree generates roots, all roots of the trees in Jambudvīpa are generated. When it generates stems, branches, leaves, flowers, and fruits, all the trees in Jambudvīpa generate branches, leaves, flowers, and fruits. Its roots can generate stems, and its stems can generate roots; therefore it is named 'Neither Born from Roots nor Not Born from Roots'. It is capable of growing in all places, except in the deep pits of the hells and within the water wheel, where it cannot grow."
