Eleventh, there are also sentient beings who are constantly upon mountains of knives and trees of swords. Whenever they grasp anything, their limbs and joints are cut, injured, severed, and destroyed. What transgression caused this? The Buddha said: In their past lives, they made slaughter their livelihood, butchering and harming sentient beings, dismembering, flaying, and tearing them apart so that bones and flesh separated and heads and feet were scattered about, hanging them on high racks to weigh and sell them, or hanging sentient beings alive in agonizing suffering. Therefore, they incurred this retribution.
