There are further five things through which, engaging in animal-like behavior, one falls among animals. What are the five? First, violating the precepts and secretly stealing. Second, owing debts and obstinately refusing to repay them. Third, killing living beings and repaying it with one's own body. Fourth, not listening to and accepting the sūtras and teachings with a wholesome mind. Fifth, constantly making difficulties for fasting, precepts, and dāna gatherings on the pretext of worldly affairs. These are the five things through which one is born among animals.
