9.52

自恨我有大顛倒　不值此當得道時
空過一生無所聞　豈非是我失大利
我今年老根純熟　死時將至不復賒
念此生分得遭逢　所以一喜一憂懼
大王釋種方興盛　誕此童子福德人
一切諸苦逼世間　此悉能令得安樂

'I regret that I suffer great delusion, / not meeting the time when he attains the Way.
Passing in vain through a whole life having heard nothing, / is this not indeed my loss of great benefit?
I am now old and my faculties are fully mature; / the time of death approaches and will not be delayed.
Thinking that in this life-portion I was fortunate enough to encounter him, / I am therefore at once joyful, sorrowful, and fearful.
The Great King's Śākya clan is just now flourishing, / giving birth to this boy, a person of merit.
While all sufferings oppress the world, / he will be able to cause all to attain peace and joy.'
