93.30

又毘尼母經云。尊者彌沙塞說曰。莎提比丘少小因酒長養身命。後出家已不得酒故四大不調。諸比丘白佛。佛言。病者聽甕上嗅之。若差不聽嗅。不差者聽用酒洗身。若復不差聽用酒和麵作餅食之。若復不差聽酒中浸漬。

Furthermore, the *Vinayamātṛkā* states: 'The Venerable Mahīśāsaka said: "The bhikṣu Svāti was nurtured and sustained by liquor from childhood. Later, after going forth, because he could not obtain liquor, his four elements fell into disharmony. The bhikṣus reported this to the Buddha. The Buddha said: 'The sick one is permitted to smell it above the jar. If cured, he is not permitted to smell it. If not cured, he is permitted to wash his body with liquor. If still not cured, he is permitted to mix flour with liquor to make cakes and eat them. If still not cured, he is permitted to soak in liquor.'"'
