15.69

此兒非我有　野父聚落母
共合生兒子　非烏復非雞
若欲學翁聲　復是雞所生
若欲學母鳴　其父復是烏
學烏似雞鳴　學雞作烏聲
烏雞若兼學　是二俱不成

"This child is not mine alone:
A wild father, a village mother,
Coming together, have borne a son
Who is neither a crow nor a chicken.
If he wishes to imitate his grandfather's voice,
He was nonetheless born of a chicken;
If he wishes to imitate his mother's call,
His father, on the other hand, is a crow.
Imitating a crow, he sounds like a chicken's cry;
Imitating a chicken, he makes a crow's call.
If he imitates both crow and chicken,
Both will come to nothing."
