The Buddha told Mañjuśrī: "Regarding the use of these flowers, if members of the four assemblies can believe and practice, they should rise early, bathe purely, wash, and rinse their mouths, recollecting the Buddha's merit and respecting these flowers, not treading upon or stepping over the flowers with their feet. Pick them according to the Dharma and place them in pure vessels. If a person suffers from cold, fever, or forehead pain, rub the flowers with cold water and smear it on the body. If vomiting, diarrhea, bleeding, or vexing abdominal pain occurs, rub the flowers with rice gruel drink and have him drink this flower drink. If there are sores in the mouth, rub the flowers with warm water and hold this flower juice in the mouth. If rain does not stop falling from the sky, burn the flowers with fire in an open, quiet place, and the rain will immediately stop. If there is a severe drought in the weather, place the flowers in water in an open, quiet place, incant cold water, and sprinkle it further upon the flowers, and rain will immediately fall from the sky. If oxen, horses, and the like are wild by nature, feed them with the flowers and they will immediately be tamed. If fruit trees do not flourish in flowers and fruit, rub and extract flower juice with cold water and cow dung, and irrigate their roots, not allowing them to be trampled or urinated upon, and their flowers and fruit will immediately become plentiful. If there is excessive water in the fields and crops are damaged, grind the flowers into powder and scatter it in the fields, and they will immediately flourish and grow. If there is pestilence in the country, rub the flowers with cold water, smear it on conch horns and drums, and blow and beat them to make sound; those who hear it will immediately be cured. If enemy states or hostile bandits wish to come and cause harm, rub the flowers with water and sprinkle and scatter it in that place, and they will immediately retreat and scatter. If on a high mountain there is a large boulder, and many bhikṣus rub the flowers on the rock, and having finished, bow to one another, after a long time precious jewels will naturally be produced on the rock (summarized concisely; for the rest, rely in full on the sūtra)."
