9.43

復有一鬼言。我癭丸極大如甕。行時擔著肩上。住則坐上。進止患苦。何因故爾。目連答言。汝前世時作市令。常以輕秤小斗與他。重秤大斗自取。常自欲得大利於己。侵剋餘人。

Yet another ghost said, 'My goitre is extremely huge like an earthen jar. When walking, I carry it upon my shoulder; when stopping, I sit upon it. Moving or stopping, it causes suffering. For what cause is this so?' Maudgalyāyana answered, saying, 'In your past life you were a market magistrate. You always used light balances and small bushels when giving to others, and used heavy balances and large bushels when taking for yourself. You constantly sought great gain for yourself, encroaching upon and defrauding other people.'
