As for sexual misconduct arising based on the three poisons: If it arises based on a mind of greed, giving rise to lustful attachment toward sentient beings and not practicing in accord with reality is called arising based on greed. If it arises based on a mind of anger, arising out of a mind of anger toward what another protects and cherishes, or committing adultery with the wife or concubine of an enemy, or with someone an enemy loves—this is called arising based on anger. If it arises based on a mind of delusion, as when some say, 'Just like a mortar and pestle, ripe flowers and ripe fruits, food and drink, river water, and roads, a woman engaging in sex commits no sin,' or like the Persians committing incest with their mothers—this is called arising based on delusion.
As for false speech arising based on the three poisons (these three are understandable), and malicious speech, harsh speech, and frivolous speech (all are also like this): That which arises based on a mind of greed arises based on the fetter of greed, with the second mind then manifesting before one; such is called arising based on greed. That which arises based on the fetter of anger is called arising based on anger. That which arises based on the fetter of delusion is called arising based on the fetter of delusion. Covetousness, malice, and wrong view should also be known to be like this.
