Fine and smooth (𥿳滑: the first character is pronounced *si* + *ji* in fanqie. Kong's commentary on the *Classic of Documents* states: “Fine and small.” The *Shuowen jiezi* states: “Minute; it is composed of the radical *mì* (silk) with *xìn* as phonetic.” *Mì* is pronounced *mi*; *xìn* is pronounced *xin*. The second character is pronounced *huan* + *ba* in fanqie. The *Guangya* states: “Smooth means fine and beautiful.” The *Yupian* states: “Not rough.” Rough (濇) is like coarse (澀). The *Shuowen jiezi* states: “Slippery; it is composed of the radical *shuǐ* (water) with *gǔ* as phonetic.” *Měi* (媺) is pronounced *mei*, an ancient character for *měi* (美). *Sè* (濇) is pronounced *se*).
