稽緇衣（上計奚反孔注尚書云稽考也廣雅稽問也說文從旨𮂱聲𮂱音雞[杭-〦+ㄊ]字從尤禾聲禾音鷄木字曲頭也下滓師反毛詩傳曰緇黑色也從糸[甾-十+乂]聲也[甾-十+乂]音同上[甾-十+乂]字說文從𫶧音灾從𠙽苦外反俗用從田者謬）。

“Examining black robes” (稽緇衣: the upper character is fanqie 計 + 奚 [jī]. Kong's commentary on the Classic of Documents says: “稽 means to examine.” The Guangya says: “稽 means to investigate.” The Shuowen says: “It is composed of 旨 with 𮂱 as phonetic; 𮂱 has the sound of 雞.” The lower character is fanqie 滓 + 師 [zī]. The Mao Commentary on the Classic of Poetry says: “緇 means black. It is composed of 糸 with [甾-十+乂] as phonetic; [甾-十+乂] has the same sound as above.” As for the character [甾-十+乂], the Shuowen says: “It is composed of 𫶧 (sound: zāi) and 𠙽 (fanqie 苦 + 外 [kuài]). Its popular form using 田 is an error”).
