鷲峰 (pronounced *jiù*; also named Divine Vulture, Vulture Head, or Vulture Terrace; all merely follow popular phrasing. Anciently called 耆闍崛, which is an abbreviated Sanskrit transcription; the correct form is *hṛ-da-ya-ku-ṭa* (紇哩二合馱羅二合轉舌矩吒) [Gṛdhrakūṭa]. Because this mountain is home to roosting vultures and also resembles a high terrace, it is named Vulture Terrace; because vultures roost upon its peaks, it is called Vulture Peak; 紇 is *hén* + *mò* fanqie).
