崖揆（上雅加反考聲云水岸也又音雅皆反集訓云山險岸也或作厓古今正字云山邊也從厂圭聲厂音罕下葵季反毛詩專曰揆度也度音唐洛反度亦量也說文揆葵也從手癸聲癸字下從天）。

崖揆 [Precipice and consideration / measure]: The first character is read with the fanqie 雅 [y-] + 加 [-ā] (yá). The Kaosheng says: 'Waterbank.' It is also read with the fanqie 雅 [y-] + 皆 [-ái] (yái). The Jixun says: 'A steep mountain cliff.' Or written as 厓. The Gujin zhengzi says: 'Mountain edge; formed from 厂 (cliff) with 圭 acting as phonetic; 厂 is pronounced hǎn.' The second character is read with the fanqie 葵 [k-] + 季 [-uì] (kuí). The Mao Commentary to the Classic of Poetry says: '揆 means to measure (度).' 度 is pronounced with the fanqie 唐 [t-] + 洛 [-uò] (duó); 度 also means to weigh/gauge. The Shuowen says: '揆 means sunflower/principle; formed from 手 (hand) with 癸 acting as phonetic; the character 癸 has 天 below.'
