投掣（上豆樓反杜注左傳云投擲也棄也說文擿也從手殳聲殳音殊下闡熱反韻英云掣挽也字鏡𤿫也曳也周易見輿曳其牛掣古今正字或作𤸪亦作掣音充世反引縱曰𤸪從手掣聲或作摯從熱𤿫音丑劣反）。

投掣 [Cast down and dragged]: The first character is read with the fanqie 豆 [d-] + 樓 [-óu] (tóu). Du's Commentary on the Zuo zhuan says: '投 means to hurl; to discard.' The Shuowen says: 'To throw; formed from 手 (hand) with 殳 acting as phonetic; 殳 is pronounced shū.' The second character is read with the fanqie 闡 [ch-] + 熱 [-è] (chè). The Yunying says: '掣 means to pull.' The Zijing says: '𤿫; to drag.' The Book of Changes says: 'He sees the carriage dragged back, its oxen pulled.' The Gujin zhengzi sometimes gives 𤸪, or 掣, read with the fanqie 充 [ch-] + 世 [-ì] (chì), meaning pulling and releasing; formed from 手 (hand) with 掣 acting as phonetic; or written as 摯 from 熱. 𤿫 is read with the fanqie 丑 [ch-] + 劣 [-uè] (chuè).
