三災 (Pronounced 宰 + 來 fanqie. The Shuowen says: 'Fire from heaven is called 災.' The ancient text writes it as 巛, and also as 𣏹, which are ancient characters. The three calamities are of two kinds, great and small, each different; both occur in the declining kalpas. The three minor calamities are famine, pestilence, and warfare. The three major calamities are fire, wind, and water calamities; both occur at the end of a kalpa, and are also called kalpa calamities).
