技術（上奇蟣反韻英云藝能也考聲工巧也說文巧也從手支聲經文從人作伎借用非本字下順律反鄭注禮記云術道也莊生曰人相知於道術韓詩藝也說文邑中道也從行朮聲朮音椎律反）。

技術 (*jìshù*, arts and techniques; the upper character has the fanqie 奇蟣 [*qí* + *jǐ*]. The *Yunying* says: "Art and capability." The *Kaosheng* says: "Craftsmanship and skill." The *Shuowen* says: "Skill; it is composed of 手 with 支 as phonetic." In the sūtra text it is written with the human radical as 伎, which is a borrowed character and not the original form. The lower character has the fanqie 順律 [*shùn* + *lǜ*]. Zheng's commentary on the *Liji* says: "*Shù* means way." Zhuangzi says: "Men understand one another in the arts of the Way." The *Han shi* says: "Arts." The *Shuowen* says: "A roadway within a town; it is composed of 行 with 朮 as phonetic." 朮 has the fanqie 椎律 [*zhuī* + *lǜ*]).
