常翹（祇姚反廣雅翹舉也翹舉一足念誦現苦行相專志一心也心若散亂身必危倒也說文從羽堯聲也）。

常翹 (*chángqiáo*, constantly standing on one foot; [the second character has] the fanqie 祇姚 [*qí* + *yáo*]. The *Guangya* says: "*Qiáo* means to lift up." Lifting up one foot while chanting and reciting displays an ascetic appearance and single-minded concentration; if the mind is scattered, the body will surely collapse. The *Shuowen* says: "It is composed of 羽 with 堯 as phonetic").
