鎖械（上蘇果反考聲云鎻錄也文字集略云連䥫環以拘身也古今正字從金𧴲𧴲亦聲或從玉作𤨏也經從巢作鏁非也下骸戒反文字集略云械穿木加足也文字典說械桎梏也從木戒聲也）。

鎖械 ('chains and fetters'; the upper character is pronounced 蘇 [sū] + 果 [guǒ] fanqie. The Kaosheng says: '鎖 [suǒ] means to link/bind.' The Wenzi jilüe says: 'Connecting iron rings to restrain the body.' The Gujin zhengzi has it composed of 金 ['metal'] with 𧴲, where 𧴲 also serves as phonetic; or it is written with 玉 ['jade'] as 𤨏. In the sūtra text, writing it with 巢 as 鏁 is incorrect. The lower character is pronounced 骸 [hái] + 戒 [jiè] fanqie. The Wenzi jilüe says: '械 [xiè] refers to boring holes in wood and applying them to the feet.' The Wenzidian shuo says: '械 [xiè] refers to cangues and fetters.' It is composed of 木 ['wood'] with 戒 as phonetic).
