暎徹（上英敬反考聲云暎暉也傍照也潘安仁石榴賦云暎亦傍照也說文從日英聲也下纏列反國語云徹猶明也論語云徹通也毛詩云徹達也說文亦通也從彳從攴育聲也彳音丑尺反攴音普卜反）。

Shining thoroughly through (暎徹; the first character is *ying* + *jing* [yìng]; the *Kaosheng* says: "暎 means bright radiance; it shines obliquely." Pan Anren's *Rhapsody on the Pomegranate* says: "暎 also means to illuminate from the side." The *Shuowen jiezi* says it has the sun radical and the *ying* sound. The second character is *chan* + *lie* [chè]; the *Guoyu* says: "徹 is like clear." The *Analects* says: "徹 means to penetrate." The *Mao Shijing* says: "徹 means to reach." The *Shuowen jiezi* also says it means to penetrate; it derives from 彳 and 攴, with 育 as its phonetic element; 彳 is pronounced *chǒu* + *chǐ* [chì], and 攴 is pronounced *pǔ* + *bǔ* [pō]).
