Suddenly born (俄誕; the first character is *wo* + *ge* [é]; the *Mao Shijing* commentary note says: "俄 means an instant." He's commentary on the *Gongyang zhuan* says: "俄 is within a moment." The *Shuowen jiezi* says it has the person radical and the *wǒ* sound. The second is *da* + *tan* [dàn]; the *Kaosheng* says: "誕 means to give birth." The *Shuowen jiezi* says it has the speech radical and the *yán* sound).
