棄捐（上輕異反孔注尚書云棄癈也爾雅棄忘也說文云棄捐也從廾音拱推[┴/(卄*├)/┬]音般從云土骨反云惡子也故棄之會意字下悅淵反莊子云去國捐俗楚辭云捐亦棄也說文從手肙聲肙音恚緣反也）。

棄捐, [abandon and cast aside] (the upper character is qīng + yì fanqie. Kong's commentary on the Shangshu says: "Qì (棄) means to discard." The Erya says: "Qì means to forget." The Shuowen jiezi says: "Qì means to cast aside (捐); it is classified under the two hands radical (廾, pronounced gǒng) pushing [┴/(卄*├)/┬] (pronounced bān), and classified under [the element] (tǔ + gǔ fanqie), which means an evil son, hence abandoning him; it is an ideographic compound character." The lower character is yuè + yuān fanqie. Zhuangzi says: "Leaving the state and casting aside its customs." The Chuci says: "Juān (捐) also means to abandon." The Shuowen jiezi says: "It is classified under the hand radical (手), with yuān (肙) phonetic; yuān (肙) is huì + yuán fanqie").
