蟠曲(上婆鏝反顧野王云紆迴轉也廣雅云蟠也鄭注禮記蟠委曲說文從虫番聲蟠亦曲番音潘正作此蟠經作磐非此義也)。

Coiling and winding [蟠曲]: the first [character is pronounced with the fanqie] po-man (婆鏝反). Gu Yewang states: 'Winding and revolving around.' The Guangya states: 'Pán (蟠) means coiled.' Zheng [Xuan's] commentary on the Liji states: 'Pán means bending and winding.' The Shuowen [jiezi] says it is formed from [the semantic component] chóng (虫, serpent/insect) and [the phonetic component] fān (番); pán also means winding. Fān has the sound pan. Correctly it is written with this pán (蟠); in the sūtra text it is written as 磐, which does not have this meaning.
