據慠（上居御反毛詩傳曰據依也考聲憑也杜注左傳安也說文扶持也從手豦聲也或作倨豦音渠下吾告反孔注尚書云慠慢也廣雅蕩也說文倨也從心敖聲或從人作傲字說文從出從放今經文從土作傲漸訛略也）。

Arrogant and haughty (據慠: the upper character [據] is pronounced *j[u]* + *[y]u* [jù]. The Mao commentary to the *Odes* says: "*Ju* means to rely on." The *Kaosheng* says: "To lean on." Du [Yu]'s commentary to the *Zuo zhuan* says: "At ease." The *Shuowen [jiezi]* says: "To support." It is classified under hand (手) with *ju* (豦) phonetic; it is also written 倨. *Ju* (豦) is pronounced *q[u]* [qú]. The lower character [慠] is pronounced *w[u]* + *[g]ao* [ào]. Kong [Anguo]'s commentary to the *Shangshu* says: "*Ao* means disrespectful." The *Guangya* says: "Unrestrained." The *Shuowen [jiezi]* says: "Haughty." It is classified under heart (心) with *ao* (敖) phonetic; it is also written with person (人) as 傲. The *Shuowen [jiezi]* has it classified under *chu* (出) and *fang* (放). Now the sūtra text writes 傲 with *tu* (土), which is a gradual corruption and abbreviation).
