謇訥（上居偃反方言云謇吃也言吃甚也說文從言從蹇省聲也下奴骨反包咸注論語云訥遲鈍也說文云難言也從言內聲）。

謇訥 (stuttering and slow of speech: the upper character has the fanqie ju + yan. The Fangyan says: "Jian (謇) means stammering; speaking with great impediment." The Shuowen says it is formed with the "speech" semantic classifier and the jian (蹇) abbreviated phonetic component. The lower character has the fanqie nu + gu. Bao Xian's commentary on the Lunyu says: "Ne (訥) means slow and dull." The Shuowen says: "Difficulty in speaking." It is formed with the "speech" semantic classifier and the nei (內) phonetic component).
